Twentytwo members of the Caesarean Cycling Club travelled to Brittany for the annual Jean-Françoiis Rault randonnée. We were joined, as always by Mick Stevenson, our Brittany based member. Here's nine of us on the podium in recognition for the Club's long term support of the event.

Thunderstorms and dark skies welcomed us to the Jean Francois Rault Randonnée in Brittany early on Saturday morning as we hauled ourselves out of bed ready to zip around the French countryside. Luckily, all the rain had stopped by the time all 22 of us had lined up on the start. (The great turnout was due to Torty's enthusiastic selling of the venture.)

A slightly overcast and drizzly day did not deter Gary de Gruchy and Dave Mayman slogging it out over the 160km course and bringing in a fantastic time of 4hr 32min and that was even with Gary puncturing in the last 20 miles (and Dave waited contrary to their pre-nuptial agreement!). The other 20 who obviously forgot to take their vitamin supplements all completed their allotted distances, either 160km or 100km in fine form.

Helen Goulding coming third in the woman's Sportif section and making it in to the local papers. Florence Kirkby, Mike Stevenson and Peter Glendewar decided that 160km was not far enough for their legs and decided to go on an additional 10km sightseeing tour of the Brittany countryside mid way through the race, however, even with their little adventure they still came in with an excellent time.

Norman in a desperate bid to get in the papers, was involved in a spectacular crash but refused to climb off and continued to the finish. His injuries resulting in an hour of pampering from the local French paramedics.

The grand finale for the day was a presentation to the club by the race organisers thanking CCC for their large and regular race attendance and for their generous charity contribution. The two ladies were even given bouquets!

All in all a cracking weekend was had by the group with fantastic organisation by John Gage and Torty. Next year lets get even more people there, it's brilliant fun and the cycling is OK too.
