Under 12 Winter Programme, Race 7, Les Platons, 23 March 2003 |
The presentations of the championship medals and trophies followed the final race in the Caesarean Cycling Clubs U12 mountain bike series, sponsored by Vittel water. The overall winners in each class had already been decided, however, most of the subsequent placings had to be confirmed in the final race. The course, at Les Platons, had some tight turns, a long uphill climb and a steep downhill slope. This caused some of the younger competitors a few problems in the opening laps, but all riders eventually coped well with the course. |

Another win by Jacob Allix in the 5 years and under class, earned him the title of class champion. Unfortunately, Ian Harris chain came off in the early stages, which resulted in him completing the first lap in last position. He did however manage to gain one place to finish in 4th. This was enough to earn him 2nd place overall. Sammy Kermin rode well to finish the race in 2nd place and Charlie Ovenden took 3rd, this earned him 3rd position overall. The riders taking first, second and third places in Sundays 6 and 7 year olds race, also attained the same placings in the overall championship. Joshua ODonoghue-Rowe dominated the race, leading from the start, though Toby Luce put some pressure on in the early stages. Luce finished in 2nd and Matthew Boxall, who is now showing consistency in his riding, came 3rd. It was a close race for 4th and 5th positions between Robert Dark and Steffan Kermin, with Dark proving stronger to finish ahead. Champion of the 8 and 9 year olds class, Stephen Haley made sure of a good win and stayed ahead and out of trouble throughout the race. Rory Hidrio, equalling his best performance, rode a fine race to take 3rd place, only losing 2nd position to Samuel Luce on the 4th lap. A much improved Luce, worked tirelessly, earning him his best performance to date. The battle was on between the two Samuels, Coutanche and Allix, for 2nd and 3rd places in the championship. With only 3 points separating the two going into the final race, they both had everything to ride for. With the pressure on, both made mistakes, but it was Allix who took 4th ahead of Coutanche, confirming his overall 2nd place, and Coutanche overall 3rd. Adam Le Cheminant maintained his unbeaten record in the 10 and 11 year olds class, winning the race and the championship. He sustained an unfortunate fall in the final stages however, he managed to remount ahead of Robert Coutanche and maintain first place. Coutanche finished in 2nd and Matthew Coote in 3rd, in both the race and the championship. During the presentations, Vittel Water were thanked for their continued support, as were Colin and Linda Hidrio, who organise each event. The Caesarean Cycling Club would also like to thank the landowners and parish officials whose permission allowed the series to go ahead. 5 AND UNDER CLASS 8/9 YEARS OLD CLASS 10/11 YEARS OLD CLASS |
