The fifth race of the Caesarean Cycling Clubs U 12 mountain biking series, sponsored by Vittel water, took place at Mont Rossignol on Sunday 9th March. There were strong winds, but the sun shone and the conditions were good. The course, which had been altered from previous weeks, consisted of a fast downhill start, some tight turns and long climbs.

Jacob Allix extended his championship lead with a fine performance, winning the 5 years and under class, in a 5 lap race. Young Sammy Kermin, came in strong second ahead of Charlie Ovenden and Harry Villars.

In the 6 and 7 year olds class, Joshua O’Donoghue-Rowe made amends for coming 2nd in last weeks meeting, with an excellent ride to finish the comfortable winner, in the 7 lap race. Toby Luce, winner of the previous meeting, had to settle for 2nd place and a much improved, Matthew Boxall, rode well to take 3rd for the second time in succession.

The course was extended for the biggest class of the day, the 8 and 9 year olds. This again saw Stephen Haley earn maximum championship points, with an outstanding win. Looking comfortable, in this 5 lap race, he finished _ a lap in front of the other riders. It was a close race for the next three positions with Samuel Allix losing 2nd place to Samuel Coutanche on the third lap. Allix had to work hard to maintain 3rd position, but did just enough to stay ahead of Kurt Dingle, who took 4th. Again, the midfield battle was between Rory Hidrio and Robert Connan. After losing 5th place to Connan on the fourth lap, Hidrio finished the strongest to regain this position in the final stages. The only female in this class, Chantelle Coote improved her position throughout the race and worked hard for 10th place.

The 10 and 11 year olds completed 6 laps of the extended course. Robert Coutanche did well to stay in contention for the lead in the early stages of the race, however Adam Le Cheminant, still unbeaten in this class, won with ease, to take maximum points. Coutanche maintained 2nd place ahead of Matthew Coote and Matthew White.
