|
Race 5, Mont Rossingnol, St. Ouen, 1 February 2004The 5th race of the CCC Under 12 mountain bikes series, sponsored by Vittel Water, took place at Mont Rossignol on Sunday. The strong winds made the going tough for the youngsters, particularly on the long start/finish straight. The winner of the 5 years and under age group was Harry Garnham. . He rode a good race to lap all the other competitors up to second place boy, who was Samuel Kermin. Third place went to Samuel Maher. He finished ahead of three newcomers. Edward Fossey, Charlotte Pollard and Olivia Pollard, who finished in 4th, 5th and 6th places respectively. Once again, the two front runners for the 6 and 7 years championship, Adam Trotter and Stephan Kermin, had a very close race. On lap 4 of the 5 lap race, Kermin pushed ahead and extended his lead to the end. Trotter maintained second place, and newcomer to the sport, Thomas Ward, finished in third having worked his way up from fifth place at the start.

The surprise result of the day, came in the 8 and 9 years age group. Charlie Hubert rode an excellent race, taking the lead on the first lap, and staying focussed and in front, to the end. Behind Hubert, a battle took place between Joshua O’Donoghue-Rowe, current championship leader, and Rikki Knowlton, who has been improving with every race this season. On lap 3 of the extended course, Knowlton found the strength to pass O’Donoghue-Rowe and finished a safe second place. O’Donoghue-Rowe maintained third. Samuel Coutanche was in 4th place throughout the race, but Robert Connan was never far behind him. The two boys had to race to the finish line, Connan proving the fastest, taking fourth place from Coutanche. There were, however, no surprises in the lead of the 10 and 11 years race. Adam Le Cheminant once again earned himself maximum points and took first place. Stephen Haley took second place ahead of Kurt Dingle. Samuel Luce gave one of his best performances which earned him fourth position. Class 5 years and
