|
At Val de la Mare, St Ouen Sponsored by The start
of the summer series coincided with temperatures of 24 degrees in
the morning sun. James Patterson took the lead from the start, closely followed by fellow elite riders Keiron Mills, Richard Tanguy and veteran Bruce Dingle, but into lap 2 and Patterson was passed by Mills & Tanguy who quickly opened up an impressive lead.

Lap 3 and a puncture gave the unwell Patterson the excuse to retire from the race. At the front the pace was increasing, Tanguy made a move on lap 4 pulling away from Mills, opening up a 50 foot lead going into lap 5.
Dingle had established a secure lead in the Veterans class and was 3rd overall but was under pressure from leading sport rider James Ollivier.
Lone lady rider Caroline Davies in her first competitive event rode steady and completed her 4 laps despite a fall on the last lap.
Mills was handed the lead back on lap 6 when Tanguy punctured, he lost a lap making the repair and rejoined the race right behind Mills. The two continued together throughout the remaining laps of the 11 lap race. Mills took the line honours but Tanguy had still worked hard enough a lap down to hold onto 6th overall.
Graham Horsley quietly plodded away, using stamina built up from the track races and earned himself 2nd in the elite class. Bruce Dingle proved that age can overcome youthful enthusiasm and took 2nd overall from highest placed sport rider James Ollivier.
The heat was also having an effect on some riders who found it sapping their energy in the closing part of the race, and were glad to receive the final whistle.
