With the 2 top riders away competing
at the Island Games, there was to be a new winner at this event. Following
his usual fast start Bruce Dingle crashed on the first downhill section,
although quickly back on the bike this allowed Micheal Boarer to lead the
race, if only for half a lap. Ian Lelai took the lead from Dingle at the
end of lap one, and despite Dingle giving his all, Lelai pulled a safe gap
to hold onto first to the end of the 1hour 15minute race.
Phil Le Brun rode a strong race
in the warm conditions to finish third overall and first Sport rider, Jon
Coote took second in the sport class and showed his level of improvement
in his first season racing with 5th in the overall results beating many
more experienced riders.
Barley Jackson took class honours
in the ladies and secured the championship. Robert Coutanche worked hard
to pull away from Rikki Knowlton and they maintained those positions to
the line.
