Recent wintery conditions did nothing to deter the enthusiasm of the children taking part in the U12 Mountain Bike Winter Series. In the 5 and Under class, Luc Mont Petit-Le Brun must have thought he had evened the score with Mark Boarer, having held the lead throughout. Boarer however was gradually working his way through the field from fifth place at the end of the first lap to eventually end the race as winner. Thomas Pollard rode steadily and consistently behind Mont Petit-Le Brun and finished in third place. Eloise Dorans added a second set of maximum points to her tally as first girl to finish. In the second race of the afternoon, the 6/7 year class, the places settled into immediately after the start remained largely unchanged for the duration of the event. Harry Garnham and Michael Milner vied for overall position with Milner on this occasion being victorious. Sammy Kermin settled himself into third place soon after completion of the first lap, where he remained to the finish line. In the last race, Olivia Pollard beat sister Charlotte, but it was Charlotte finishing first this time, overtaking Olivia on the very last lap. The 8/9 and 10/11 age groups were amalgamated at the end of the afternoon with the children split only by a brief gap on the starting line. Kurt Dingle, Rikki Knowlton and Joshua O'Donoghue all took the lead at various stages of their age group race, with the serious challenge being between Dingle and Knowlton. Knowlton worked hard to maintain the first position he held for most of the laps, with Dingle passing him in time to win the event. Daisy Barnard completing just one lap less than Dingle took maximum points in the girls event. Competitors in the 8/9 year class appear to have relished racing with the older competitors and despite being in second place at the end of the first lap, Stefan Kermin maintained a consistent position to win this class. Matthew Rayson suffered a mechanical problem early in the race and found himself having to work his way back through the field towards the top, finishing in third place behind Kermin and Hugh Percival who also steadily pulled himself to the top and passed 4 th place Samuel Allen in the process. Nikita Connan has not been joined by her sister this season and again took first place in the girls event. The next event of the series is due to take place on Sunday 11 December at Sorel.
