Race 3 of the Lawrence Du Gruchy Summer series took place in hot and humid conditions at St. Ouen's Mill. The fast and dry course with its mixture of single and double track, rocky decent and long climb was the perfect setting for some tough racing.

From the line all 35 riders made a quick start with everyone wanting the race line. The elite riders where first through the first bottleneck, opening a considerable gap within the first half a lap. Robin Ovenden made his move early, taking the lead on the first lap and extended it lap after lap with over a two minute lead by the final whistle. Current Elite Champion Kieron Mills battled it out with new elite contender Adam Wojtkiewicz, taking a few laps to find his rhythm but eventually finished strongly in second place with Adam having to settle for third.

With current Veteran Champion Bruce Dingle absent, the race was wide open for the taking. Having just return from 8 days racing across the alps in the Transalp Challenge, Mick Ollivier and Michael Boarer where set to test their fitness and battle it out for the win. From a blistering start Michael Boarer put his head down and never looked back until the finish line for his first win of this Summer season. Behind, Mick Ollivier rode consistently for second, holding off Pete Dingle in third.

In the Sports class James Ollivier put in a great ride to take his second victory from the ever-improving Rhys Hidrio. Gary Osborne had another good ride but had to settle for third this time.

Caroline Davies won the women's class with her smooth riding style from Janet Gallichan.

The next race of the series will be held at Vautiers, Sion, St. John on Sunday 3 rd September. Please see the club website www.ccc.org.je for more information.
