The second race of the new 'Mark Pickford's Cycle Shop Winter Series' took place in good but sticky conditions on the challenging course of Mont Rossignol, St. Ouen. A field of 42 riders took to the start line. From the whistle Kieron Mills, Bruce Dingle and Michael Boarer all had great starts and the lead the field into the sweeping singletrack and off camber decent. By lap the end of lap one Kieron had opened a gap but was being chased down hard by fellow elite rider Robin Ovenden. By lap two Robin had caught and passed Kieron and worked hard lap on lap to stretch his lead all the way to the final whistle. Behind Kieron rode consistantly, holding off an early challenge from Michael Boarer to take a solid second. Michael Boarer showed that his last vet class win was no fluke by putting in another superb performance to secure third overall. The Sports Class saw another excellent ride from Rhys Hidrio to take his first win, having only just moved up to the class. Race two saw the welcome return of Graham Horsley to take a great second with the ever consistent Chris Stone holding on for third. The Vets Class witnessed another outstanding ride from Michael Boarer who proved that his previous win was no fluke. Having taken the lead on lap two he rode clear all the way to the final whistle. Reigning veteran champion Bruce Dingle rode a solid race but had to settle for second with the ever improving Ian Cabot close on his heels for third. The Ladies Class saw a hard fought battle between Lucy Ovenden and Jim Davis. From the start Lucy put the hammer down and had built a health lead by the beginning of lap two but with smooth riding and edge in fitness Jim worked her way up through the field. By the last lap Jim managed to edge past Lucy on the last climb to take a well deserved win. Lucy took second with Caroline Davis taking a strong third. The School Boys Class was won with a great ride by Rory Hidrio with Sam Coutanche putting in a superb effort for second spot. The next race will be on the Sunday 17 December at Hamel's Land, Grouville. Please sign on at 9.00am and be ready to race at 9.30am. All race and course cutting dates are available on either the Caesaren Cycling Club website at www.ccc.je , or at any good sports shop.
