The fourth race of the Mark Pickford Mountain Bike Winter Series held at Sorel Point and after heavy overnight rain was mud, mud, glorious mud. This fast and open course consisted of open farm track, fast muddy descents and a steady climb. After a start over open fields, Keiron Mills took advantage of a crash in the pack to open a considerable first lap lead. By the beginning of lap two fellow elite rider Robin Ovenden had managed to bridge to gap and took the overall lead which he held onto for the remaining seven laps. Keiron maintained fine form and secured 2 nd place. Ian Le Lai showed an improved performance and took 3 rd place. A strong ride by Gary Osbourne saw him take a well deserved 1 st place in the sports class. Rhys Hidrio unfortunately endured a puncture but showed true determination by repairing and working his way back into 2 nd place ahead of the ever improving Lee Wells. With his ride of the series, Ian Cabot took a well earned victory in the Veteran's class, 2 nd and 3 rd saw a "clash of the Dingles" with Bruce just managing to pip his brother Pete on the line to take 2 nd place. Lucy Ovenden showed improving form and most probably had her best race of the series, taking 1 st place in the Women's Class and carrying on to finish the men's race. With a great ride and improving skill newcomer Helene Mon Petit challenged Caroline Davies for 2 nd place. Caroline taking 3 rd . Rikki Knowlton secured another victory in the Schoolboy's Class with a consistent ride. Rory Hidrio following in 2 nd place and Sam Coutanche in 3 rd . The fifth race of the Winter Series will start at 9.30am on Sunday 4th February at Mont Rossignol, St. Ouen. Please see the club website ( www.ccc.je ) for further information.
