The second Cycle Centre - Mountain Bike Winter Series event took place on a new track at Val de la Mar at the weekend. An entry field of 33 took on the new course which proved popular with riders with a mix of switch backs and single track. The results on the day suggested the class championships will be well contested during the season, with many new winners. In the Elite class, it was Kieron Mills who dominated, his Jersey Team Bobsleigh training raising his fitness and from the first climb he set an awesome pace. In second place was Rhys Hidrio, who had a trouble-free race and is now becoming accustomed to finishing in the top two or three. In 3 rd was Kryzysztof Jeromkin in his first race after having been promoted to the elite class. Winner of the Sport class, perhaps with the performance of the day was Eric Le Brun who took 5 th place overall with a very consistent ride. In second was the experienced Graham Horsley riding a controlled race throughout to come from 25 th place overall after the first lap. Lee Wells, a strong contender for class honours had to settle for 5 th in class after a puncture ruined his day out. The Veterans class, the biggest of the day with 15 riders, was on this occasion the domain of Bruce Dingle, off to a flying start on one of his favourite tracks; he set a blistering pace for Simon Stead and Michael Boarer to match. This they could not do, and now it is one race a piece for Dingle and Boarer. Sean Le Breuilly, had a very good outing after a break from local racing to take 4 th place. The Super-Vets class was won by Chaz Knight but not after a race long battle with "king of the start" Simon Slaffer. They both shared the lead throughout the race and it wasn't until the last lap the Knight made the break to cross the finish line ahead. In 3 rd place was Mark Knowlton who pushed on strongly at the end. In the ladies class the experienced Caroline Davies rode steadily to victory with Lisa Barker in 2 nd and Lynda Lutz in 3 rd . Rikki Knowlton rode strongly to victory in the Schoolboy class and was a creditable 19 th overall, George Milner was 2 nd and Rory Hidrio 3 rd trying hard to catch his dad, Colin! The club extends its grateful thanks to Jersey Water for use of the land and to all the club members who assisted with course preparation. The next race is on January 20th at Sion, St John. Results:
