Sponsored by Lawrence de Gruchy Cycles

Race 1, Mont Rossignol, 15 June 2008

The first Lawrence de Gruchy sponsored, CCC Mountain Bike Summer Series event took place at the Mont Rossignol course, with the good turn out of riders looking forward to a dry and fast course. The track, always a favourite with the riders was a good all round test with off camber descents, technical rock sections and challenging climbs. Several of the riders were using this race as the final preparation before taking on the biggest UK 24 hour marathon event taking place in Hereford in the next few weeks.

From the start it was elite rider Kieron Mills and veteran Bruce Dingle who got the power down first and led the pack through the first few corners. Rhys Hidrio was also in close attendance but was to suffer cramp later in the race which would put an end to his charge for the front. Mills was in dominating form to take victory and Adam Wojtkiewicz, maximising his road racing fitness took a solid 2 nd . Hidrio hung on to 3 rd with Ian Lelai 4 th .

In the sport class, Andy Hull rode a great race for class victory after many years away from the MTB racing scene and looked very comfortable on the Mont Rossignol track. Experienced rider Graham Horsely, was not far behind and took a deserved 2 nd place as he powered round the circuit. Pawel Rejak rode to 3 rd place moving steadily up the field during the race and Mark Wanless, took a well deserved 4 th .

In the Veterans class Bruce Dingle, whilst setting the early pace was to be caught by Eric Le Brun, in his first veteran class race and it was Le Brun maintaining a high tempo who took 1 st in class and an excellent 3 rd overall. Colin Malzard looked set for a good result but was denied after mechanical trouble slowed him down, finally finishing 6 th and Pete Dingle was on good form to take 3 rd .

In the Ladies, Caroline Davies was clear winner from Lynda Lutz and Lisa Barker in 2 nd and 3 rd respectively. In the Super-Vets and Schoolboys classes, Dave Bihet in his first outing in the class, and Rikki Knowlton were class winners.

The club extends its grateful thanks to the landowners for use of the land and to all the club members who assisted with the course preparation.
