The 3rd Cycle Centre sponsored, CCC Mountain Bike Series event took place at the Val De La Mare course, with 35 riders looking forward to testing course. The track was a good all round test for the riders.
From the start it was Veteran rider Erik Le Brun and elite Ian Lelai who got the power down first and lead through the early part of the race. Andy Hull and Simon Stead were also early challengers for top spots. In the elite class Ian Lelai took 1st overall and first in class after an overtaking manoeuvre on the last lap for a great result.
In the sport class, Andy Hull rode a great race for class victory. Experienced rider Lee Wells, was not far behind and took a deserved 2nd place, as he powered round the circuit. Gary Osbourne rode to 3rd place moving steadily up the field during the race and Pawel Rejak took a well deserved 4th. Also worthy of mention is young Rikki Knowlton who took a very creditable 6th in class.
In the Veterans class Erik Le Brun was on top form, He set the pace for the whole race and took class victory and almost over all top spot. Simon Stead was 2nd in class, riding well and in 3rd was an improving Ian Cabot, who squeezed Colin Malard into 4th on the 5th lap. Cabot and Le Brun are both training hard for the epic TransAlp MTB race in the summer.
In the Super-Vets, Chaz Knight enjoyed a good victory, with Mark Knowlton 2nd and Simon Slaffer 3rd. In the Ladies, Helen Mon Petit Le Brun was the winner from Lisa Barker and Caroline Davies in 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the Schoolboys class, George Milner was top performer.
The club extends its grateful thanks to the landowners for use of the land and to all the club members who assisted with the course preparation.
