The first children's summer event was held at Jardin d'Olivet and proved a great success for riders and spectators alike. 35 riders registered for the 5 classes and some exciting races did justice to the excellent course design and lovely conditions.
The 5 and Under class and 6&7 year olds were combined into the first race, with 8 willing entrants. Billy Malzard and Maja Jeromkin were on top form and were victors in the boys and girls 5 and under class with Sonny Bertram show good form for 2 nd place.
In the 6&7s Adele Maher was off the mark the quickest and had soon established a comprehensive lead with Aimee Lutz enjoying herself in second place was top girl and took a very respectable 2 nd overall. In the boys section Thomas Boarer was pushing hard but a determined Michael McGinley kept the pressure on to take the lead on the penultimate lap and secure victory, leaving Thomas in 2 nd and Lewis Bagot in 3 rd place.
The 8/9 year age group, with 8 riders on the line was to be all about Jack Lutz. Setting an amazing pace from the whistle, Jack was soon lapping slower riders and it was now about who could take 2 nd place. Joe Hugh and Elliot Stead were never too far apart and both rode committed races. It was Joe who showed well in the final laps and took 2 nd with Elliot in 3 rd . In the girls class Evie Le Breton and Aimee Banks were also well matched but it was Evie who had the edge to take the victory.
The 10/11 year age group has grown to 9 riders. Ollie Turner was the man to beat with a great performance for 1 st place in the boys class but he did take 2 laps to overhaul Sam Maher, who took 2 nd . Harry Garnham was never too far behind in 3 rd . In the girls Amber Smith took the victory after a solid race with Emma McGinley and Bethan Gibaut in 2 nd and 3 rd respectively.
In the 12-14 year old class, now the biggest group there were 10 entrants. In the girls class, newcomer Charlotte Turner was not phased by the technical wooded section and took class honours, with Jade Ward enjoying herself in 2 nd . In the boys class Ben Le Brocq was quick off the blocks and launched an early attack with George Milner in pursuit. George soon got into his stride and pushed on for a commanding victory, with Ben in 2 nd and Oliver Lowthorpe and well deserved 3 rd place.
The club extends its grateful thanks to the landowners for use of the land and to all the club members who assisted with the course preparation. |
