12-14 Years rider: Ben Le Brocq
The 5th race of the 2009 Autumn series was held at Rozel on a blustery but largely dry day. Despite the cool conditions another great attendance of 71 riders braved the conditions.
The day’s racing got underway in the 5 and under class with 10 entries, with a very balanced entry of 5 girls and 5 boys. In the boys class George Daniels was well suited to the softer conditions, which sapped the energy from the young riders and he took class honours. Billy Malzard had a good tussle with Sonny Bertram and they took 2nd and 3rd respectively. Katie Le Gros was top girl of the day again finding the conditions ideal. Summer Glendewar had a spirited ride for 2nd spot and in 3rd was Aimee Hawley.
In the 6&7 year old class there was a field of 15 riders which meant the start straight was a high adrenalin dash! In the boys group Oliver Daniels was taking no prisoners with a commanding winning performance, Malo Monpetit LeBrun was pushing well from the start and took a good 2nd spot after squeezing past Thomas Boarer on the 3rd lap with Thomas having to settle for 3rd. Aimee Lutz was smooth on the technical sections to be top girl, Emily Blake also found the course to her liking was 2nd and Aimee Hugh rounded out the top 3.
The 8&9 year old, again the largest group of the day with 21 riders meant for another busy starting line. Once underway it was race favourite Jack Lutz who stormed off and never looked back. Luc Monpetit LeBrun wasn’t troubled in 2nd spot and Ben Le Rougetel was comfortable in 3rd with his brother Tom rounding out the top 4. In the girl’s class Adele Maher was always in command taking 1st after a great race with Evie Le Breton taking a well deserved 2nd spot after a gritty ride and Indi Malzard working hard in 3rd.
In the 10/11, with a class size of 11 riders it was Jacques Stead’s day, grinding out some great laps to win from Michael Milner, who also had a solid day at the races. Sam Maher was not able to overhaul the front runners and took 3rd. In the girls class Amber Smith was always looking good for the class win and a superb third overall with the keen Emma McGinley working hard in 2nd and Bethan Hamon taking the 3rd spot.
In the 12-14 year old age group, there were 6 entries taking on the 5 lap course. Ben Le Brocq was keen to make amends for his last race and set a fast pace. By lap 3 he was starting to pull away and maintained his lead for the class win. Oliver Lowthorpe put in a workman like performance in 2nd spot and in 3rd place was the reliable Ryan O’Shea. In the girls class Charlotte Turner was in fine form taking the victory and Jade Ward stayed on the pace to take 2nd place.
