Amy claims top spot

James Amy claimed a fine win in a commanding time for victory in the fifth race of the Caesarean Cycling Club's Time Trial Series, sponsored by Mark Pickford's Cycle Shop. This latest victory puts him level with Adam Wojtkiewicz in the hunt for top spot in the series, with just one race remaining.

CCC's Amy demonstrated his fine time trialling ability with a blistering time of 10 minutes and 33 seconds over the file mile course from La Saline to Barge Aground and back, along the Five Mile Road. Dave Jardine, of Velo Sport, was the only other rider to complete the course in under 11 minutes to take second spot. Island Games reserve, Adam Wojtkiewicz, who is challenging Amy for the overall Mark Pickford's Time Trial Series, placed seventh. Amy and Wojtkiewicz go into the final race of the series - a 15km time trial event - with a total of 24 points each.

Dave Mayman finished third overall in this five mile time trial and was the fastest finisher in the veteran's category finishing just four seconds ahead of Noel Haydon, who put in a powerful ride to complete the course in 11 mins and 12 seconds. With one race remaining, Mayman heads the table and looks favourite to take the vets title in the series.

Mike Harris continues to dominate in the fixed gear category, with another fine ride, bettering his time by some 17 seconds from the last race over this distance. Island Games rider Sarah Smith was fastest lady and junior Carey Fenton put in another impressive ride in a time of 14 minutes and 7 seconds, some 34 seconds faster than her last ride on this course.

The last event in the series, sponsored by Mark Pickford's Cycle Shop, is on 10 July over 15km from La Pulente and back.
