Winner Sam Firby on form at the top of Hydrangea Avenue

Sam Firby demonstrated his increasing form with a fine result in the fourth race of the Caesarean Cycling Club's Time Trial Series, sponsored by Mark Pickford's Cycle Shop, on Tuesday evening.

The race, over a 15km (9.3 mile) course from La Pulente to the top of Hydrangea Avenue and back, was held in a strong NE wind making the outward leg quite demanding, particularly as it included a headwind on the climb up Mont Pinel.

Island and Commonwealth Games Firby finished 16 seconds ahead of his Caesarean clubmate Chris Spence which, over a reasonably short course, is a significant margin of victory. James Amy put in a fine ride to come in third, two seconds down on Spence. Adam Wojtkiewicz came in fourth to clinch 3 points in the series and maintain his position at the top of the series table.

First veteran home was triathlete Paul Clements with Helen Goulding securing position of first lady for the third time in the series. Of the 32 riders competing, CCC cyclist Robert Coutanche finished 12 th overall and was the first junior.

Veteran Mike Harris, riding a 72" fixed gear, put in a blistering ride to finish with a time of 23:05 to knock Martin Sampson from the top spot in the series table for fixed gear bikes.
