Ovenden and Keighrey continue to dominate

Caesarean Cycling Club’s senior Robin Ovenden and Velo Sport Jersey’s veteran Mike Keighrey continue to dominate their respective categories by taking top placings in the recent Jersey Cycling Association’s 25 mile time trial – to add to theirJCA 50 and 5 mile time trial wins already this year.

The damp conditions early on Sunday morning did not favour fast times on what is a very technical course, with many bends and junctions to negotiate on the route that runs from St Ouen’s Manor across the north of the Island to St Martin’s Church and back.

Despite the conditions, Robin Ovenden and Mike Keighrey were the only riders of the 40 strong field to complete the course in under the hour, Ovenden finishing in 57 minutes and 47 seconds, with Keighrey clocking a time of 59.33, to win the seniors and veterans titles respectively.

This represented a particularly fine achievement for VSJ’s Keighrey who has shown increasingly strong form this season and broke the hour for the first time, also taking second overall. Caesarean vet Kevin Pilley rode strongly to finish third overall, and second in the veterans category, finishing in a time of one hour and 43 seconds.

The JCA Youth Academy’s junior Steven Haley won his second JCA title of 2010, having already won the 5 mile junior time trial race, and VSJ’s Sarah Williams added the ladies JCA 25 mile title to the 50 mile TT title.

CCC President Alan Miller was, once again, the fastest veteran on standard time.
