The JCA Road League was formed in 2009 to establish an effective method of ranking riders and regulating their position within the divisional system.
The league includes all track and road races apart from Island Championship events which are of course based on age groups.
It's not an automatic promotion/relegation system but it acts as a solid foundation of information for the JCA Committee to make decisions on placing riders in their divisions.
Point scoring works like this:
In a divisional race, 10 points are awarded to the winner of each division with 9 points to the second placed rider and so on down to 10th place securing 1 point. Points accumulate throughout a season and the total points ammassed at any given point in the season, determine a rider's 'ranking' or position within the division/league.
In a handicap race, 10 points are awared to the rider finishing highest in his respective division overall at the finish line. For example, if a rider finished 18th oveall in a handicap race, but is the highest placing division 4 rider, he or she gets 10 points in their divisional league table.
Races that are included within the League/Rankings are designated on the race calendar on each club's website - in the same way that TT's or other races are shown as being part of a series.
Promotion & Relegation Process:
The purpose of the promotion and relegation system within the League structure is to ensure riders are racing within a competitive environment based on their ability versus the riders around them. Promotion and Relegation is also used to stimulate riders and is a necessary part of any sporting league. The system also affords opportunities for competitors to progress or regress based on their state of fitness from season to season, thus ensuring they enjoy their competition and maintain commitment.
The JCA's system of promotion and relegation is not prescriptive and promotes flexibility. It is not an automatic system but it acts as a solid foundation of information for the JCA league committee to make decisions on placing riders in their divisions.
At the end of each season, in each division the top five (5) riders will be considered for promotion, whist the bottom five (5) riders will be considered for relegation.
When deciding on an appropriate division for a given rider, the league committee will consider a number of factors including but not limited to; type of races each competitor has competed in, the current form of those competitors, suitability to the proposed new division and number of races within which points were scored versus their closest rivals.
Process for Requesting a change to your division:
Should you wish to change division, you must request this via the JCA secretary by emailing Simon Fenton (fenton@localdial.com) or JCA Delegate Tony Moffa (tony@bigmaggys.com).
If you move division, you will lose any points amassed so far at that point in the season.
What do you win?:
Riders finishing top of the rankings at the end of each season, will win a trophy in their respective division. Riders finishing 2nd or 3rd will receive a medal. |
