JCA Island Games 2013 Selection Criteria

The JCA is the body responsible for selecting the Cycling squads for the Island Games and other ‘Team Jersey’ riders/events.  The Island Games Team can consist of 5 men road, 3 ladies road, 5 men MTB and 3 ladies MTB.  Selection for Island Games road and MTB events will be made at the end of October 2012.

Performances off the Island

Those seeking selection are expected and encouraged to show commitment by racing off the island in events equal to the standard of competition at the Games.  Performances off the Island will always be judged by the quality of the events, the number of riders taking part and an individual’s results. If it is a ‘Team Jersey’ event, the overall team results, individual’s results and contribution to the team will be considered.

For road racing, National B races open to Elite, 1st, 2nd and 3rd category is typically the level being considered. For MTB, races of an equivalent standard will be considered and consultation on the level of the event with the JCA, prior to events being ridden, is advisable.  All results should be sent to jca@ccc.je with a brief summary of the race.

Performances on the Island

The JCA expects riders to race locally when on the island and will use time trial and road race results from the following to assist with selection (but not limited to):

  • Divisional races.
  • Liberation races - 6th, 7th and 9th May.
  • Jersey Town Criterium weekend.
  • Inter insular weekend.
  • JCA events.
  • Any event where you are invited to ride for ‘Team Jersey’, details of these will be notified to riders.
  • Any event the JCA deems appropriate from time to time; these will be notified to riders well in advance.

Ladies seeking selection are expected to race locally in at least Division 2.

The JCA wishes to encourage Juniors who will be 18 years of age in 2013 to seek selection for the Island Games. The JCA will use time trial and road race results from the following to assist with selection (but not limited to):

  • Divisional races.
  • Jersey Town Criterium weekend.
  • JCA events.
  • Any event the JCA deems appropriate from time to time; these will be notified to riders well in advance.

Mountain bike riders will be expected to race in road events as a means of improving race fitness and tactical awareness. Results in the local MTB calendar and any event where you are invited to ride for ‘Team Jersey’ will also assist the JCA with selection.

Maintaining Selection

Once selected, riders will be expected to perform and ride as a team and abide by the JCA code of conduct which will be published in 2012 and follows those of British Cycling. Performance will be monitored during the early part of 2013. Riders who do not maintain fitness will be dropped from the Island Games Squad and replaced at the discretion of the JCA. Reserve riders may be selected but will not normally travel with the team.
