The support over a period of nine years by members of the CCC was recognised by the organisers of the La Pierre Le Bigaut. The club was presented with a trophy and thanked publicly not only for their participation but also for being the largest entry from a single club.
The weekend can only be described as a total success both on and off the bike. First home for the club in the 158 km event was Nicholas Soloman with a time of 4:04:46 compared to the winnerwho clocked 3:58:52. Nicholas placed 64 th and was closely followed by Dave Mayman in 81 st place with a time of 4:04:53. In third place for the CCC in 175 th place overall was Mike Harris in 4:15:43. Mike was still suffering from his ride in the high mountains of Les Trois Ballons two weeks previously.
In the 100 km event Max Linney at only 16 years of age produced an outstanding ride at his first attempt and finished in 3:22:23.
In the evening 35 members sat down to a gourmet meal and the odd glass of wine or two help relax the tired legs. The La Pierre Le Bigaut is now a firm fixture on the club's calendar. It always takes place on the last Saturday in June and is limited to 6500 riders which means entries have to be in early to secure a place. For CCC riders one of the attractions is the opportunity to ride on closed roads in such a big field. There are probably only two or three events in France that attract more entries. |
