Helen Goulding travelled to Cambridgeshire to be the only Channel Island representative in the National 10 mile time trial on 20 May. The event was well organised by the St Ives C. C. and held in near perfect conditions on the N1/10 course in Sawtry containing 7 roundabouts but with little traffic to contend with. The women's event was won by Julia Shaw in a time of 22:30, the juniors' by 18 year old Andrew Griffiths in 21:27 and the men's by Michael Hutchinson in a new course record of 19:43
As for Helen, while she broke no records she did improve on her previous year's performance to finish 33rd out of 66 finishers in a time of 25:34 and now plans to represent the Channel Islands again (where are the rest of you?) in the National 25 mile time trial in June. |
