Given that this year’s Tour de France is climbing the Col du Tourmalet twice to celebrate 100 years of climbing in the Pyrenees CCC's Rob Leaser and VSJ's Andy Boxall thought it would be a good idea to experience the climb before sitting back in the luxury of their homes and watching the professionals make the ascent look easy. |

The Raid Pyrénéen involves a ride across
the Pyrénées, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean,
with more than 11,000m of climbing over 18 cols, to be
completed in under 100 hours. That, loosely translated,
is what it says on the website of the Cyclo Club Bearnais
of Pau, the club who established the route. Four of CCC’s ‘finest’– Gary
de Gruchy, Simon Fenton, Dave Mayman and Kevin Pilley,
ably assisted by Directeur-Sportif, Malcolm Armes and (soigneur
to team captain), Jimmy Fullerton, found out that it
involves much, much more…. |

| Ovenden takes third: Round 6 of the Rudy Project Time Trial Series was held on Saturday 18th in North Yorkshire. The course was a fast rolling 10 mile 3 lap circuit with 2 small climbs, but with poor and heavy road surfaces in places. Brisk headwind slowed riders on large sections. This was a best place so far in National Rudy Project series for Robin Ovenden and bodes well for top 3 overall placing in series. Unfortunately he will miss the last two races as he'll be at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, but he has now completed the minimum 5 races to gain an overall position (best 5 of 8 races count). |
