Rudy Project Series 2011

Round 1 of the National 'Rudy Project' Time Trial series took place on 28th March on the hills in and around Somerset. Three Caesarean club members (Allan Miler - Veteran - Club President, Robin Ovenden - Senior Mens and Kim Ashton - Womens) travelled and raced well in their respective categories.

The 24 mile course was very hilly by normal UK time trial standards. Allan was first off and rode a very controlled race and finished 16th place in the veterans class. Kim was next and a newcomer to time trials. Having borrowed some clip-on bars and carbon wheels, she race very well to finish a credible 13th. Olympian Rebecca Remero was the winner on the day. Finally, Commonwealth Games hopeful Robin Ovenden was last off, in this his first race in the Rudy Project series. With the hilly style course more to his liking, he finished a very respectable 6th in the senior mens class.

Round 2 of the National 'Rudy Project' Time Trial series took place on 10th April on the rolling roads of Hampshire. This time only two Ceasarean club members (Allan Miler - Veteran - Club President and Robin Ovenden - Senior Mens) travelled and raced well in their respective categories. The course was more undulating than the previous course, but was longer at a distance of 35 miles. Allan was first off and rode well (despite being sick the night before) and finished 4th place in the veterans class. Robin Ovenden was again last off and once again finished 6th in the senior mens category.

Both members are looking to race the entire Rudy Project series, in which Allan is currently sitting 4th overall. Robin Ovenden is using the series as potential qualification and preparation for the Commonwealth Games later in the year, and is currently sitting 5th in the overall series.

All three members would like to thank the Caesarean Cycling Club for their continued financial assistance and support.

Thanks to Robin Ovenden for this report.
