Riding the velodrome
By Sabine Minchinton-Gilley
In September I had the chance to ride the velodrome just like my mum used to do. It was so much fun and I did not find it difficult even though I had never ridden it before. The feeling is like riding a roller coaster.
The banking was at a 45-degree angle and I was able to ride above the blue line in no time. The wooden track at Calshot is a 140 metre oval shape. The faster you ride the faster the banking comes at you! I liked best the sprint drills off the top of the banking down into the red sprinter’s line. I managed to get mum back on a track bike and she showed me some of her old tricks. I wish we had a track here in Jersey. |
